ADAPT

Sometimes you have to adapt something for a new purpose. For example, I made this little 8"x16" painting last week, and decided I wanted to share it with my Illustration Friday friends. All I had to do was adapt it to this weeks IF word, by writing something clever to go along with it. ...and Presto, here you go!

I had fun painting this. My original thought was to keep it mostly in the blue hues to make the orange dog pop out. But now I am thinking that the checkerboard ground area might be better in red and yellow... something bright to give it a little more pizazz. Too bad this is a painting and not a Photoshop piece were I could make the change with the click of a button.

Any thoughts about the colors, out there?

Yeah I guess it could use some pizazz on the ground, but the cartoon dog is really good, so it makes up for it!... But I have to say that the llama whose name is Obama is FUNNY AS HELL!!!!... :D very funny cartoons man, I had to follow!

Great solution for "adapt", DJ! Like Jeff said, yeah, spicing up the lower checkerboard would probably be better, but it's not a big deal. Looks fine as is!

You know, I think it would work either way and just bring about a different mood. The blue and green works for me, the emphasis is certainly on the dog. Changing up the pattern to a brighter red and yellow could then compete with the dog and then you would have the struggle between the pattern or subject being center of attention.
Maybe red and yellow if the blocks were bigger?
Thanks for sharing, it is a truly fun and light-hearted piece.
