SocMo tests his THEORY that toast always lands jelly side down.
Well, I squeezed a bit of time out to do another Illustration Friday word. Or in my case it is Illustration Monday night. Good thing TV is a vast wasteland tonight. But then it is pretty much always a vast wasteland these days. I tried using Painter again on this one. Still don't have a clue what I'm doing. I used one brush to color several items and then discovered that the opacity was set on 5%. After changing it to 100% it was really different. I tried a watercolor brush for a while then a pastel brush on the floor, then an oil brush on the wall. Then just smeared the oil brush around here and there. I can see that if I really worked at this I could maybe come up with some intersting painterly textures. Maybe someday I'll do that... but right now it is off to bed I go... :0)

very funny...
let's hope he ends up with some on the 'up' side...
makes me smile :) good execution of a very great idea. I think the painterly texture really works. I too have been trying to merge my watercolor look with my digital work.
The problem is that he is putting the jelly on the wrong side every time. If you look at the loaf of toast, you will see that the jelly side is facing down and he is probably just arbitrarily "jellying" the top side and tossing the toast.
hee hee. Nicely done. Keep going with the computer experiments you got a nice painterly effect here. I too have been trying to make Photoshop do things that come more natural to real time brushes.
Fantastic take on the topic! Love that Socmo! I am definately getting a tee for this summer!
Cute & funny too. :O)
jajaja, great idea, and very nice illo!
Doug, this is too too awesome!! Go Socmo! Who's cleaning up?
a : )
ohh i havent been here for a while.. this is one funny post! i luv it.. hope i see your socmo cartoons on tv someday soon..
btw, i have this raffle for illo friday folks "share the looooooove" maybe you can join.. hope you can check it out.
HA -- oh man, I so want to go home and try this. Love it.
Fun concept and equally fun cartoon!
Excellent, Dougshmo! But I think Soc'll only prove that it's grape jelly on whole wheat bread that lands jelly-side down. I've found strawberry jam on white lands jelly-side up...At least the one time I dropped it.
Your brush work looks fine. Good or you for testing brushes! I like your blotchy effect. it does look watercolory. I still don't like the wc brushes, though the digital wc's are easier to use.
I just discovered your blog and work via a comment on BEETLEGRASS. I'm going to be a regular reader now, great work and humor!
i've unfortunately tested that theory more than i care to remember! great illo!
HA! only socmo would put this theory to the test! so funny!
